Over six thousand Malawians are still stranded in South Africa and are struggling to find food following the outbreak of the Covid--19 pandemic.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Rejoice Shumba has confirmed to Zodiak Online that over 3,000 Malawians want to be repatriated back home while the other 3,000 want government to help them with food assistance.
According to Shumba,the ministry has submitted the requests to the Presidential taskforce of Covid-19 to assist these Malawians.
Meanwhile, Shumba has expressed worry with the tendency of some Malawians who are booking buses and returning home without travelling permits and without informing the Malawi government saying they end up detained ,some arrested in Mozambique borders for several days.
