Former President Dr. Joyce Banda who is also founder of the People’s
Party (PP) has paid a surprise visit to President in-waiting Dr. Lazarus
Chakwera at his house in Blantyre.
An eyewitness confirmed of the development in an interview with this publication.
While the aim of the visits is not known but inside sources say Banda
went to Chakwera to congratulate him for coming out victorious in the
fresh Presidential polls.
Unofficial results of the fresh Presidential polls conducted on June
23, 2020 by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) indicates that
Chakwera of Tonse Alliance has outclassed President Peter Mutharika of
DPP-UDF alliance with 58 percent against 39 percent.
According to the results, Chakwera has amassed 2,597,088 votes while Mutharika has amassed 1,742, 802 votes.
Official results will be announced by MEC any day this week.
